Is an SPST momentary switch active when you are pressing it, or when you are not pressing it?

I'm pretty sure that it is only when you are pressing it but i wanted to make sure. If I wanted a switch that disabled the circuit when you are pressing it would I need spdt or is there another kind of spst? I hope you know what I'm trying to say haha.
